My journey into the world of wellness began in fitness and personal training. I took my childhood love of sport and activity and transformed it into a profession that excited and inspired me. Even while raising three young children, I developed my personal passion for long-distance running, training for and completing countless marathons and half-marathons. I also pursued my love of bodybuilding and weight lifting, in addition to teaching my wildly popular HIIT (high intensity interval training) and pilates classes in Hollywood.
While I may have looked like a picture of health on the outside, slim, trim and athletic…on the inside I was a burnt out, unhealthy mess. I was sleep-deprived, stressed and overwhelmed and as a result, my health was beginning to suffer. Like many other well-intentioned mothers, I had fallen victim to the never-ending demands of raising a family and trying to “do it all,” all the while ignoring my own physical, mental and emotional needs. I soon realized that in order to be a loving caretaker and be fully present for my family, I had to take care of myself first.
When I embarked on a journey to reclaim my health, wellness, and zest for life, I started from the ground up. I began by improving my nutrition, crowding out chemical “diet” food, caffeine, alcohol, and junk food products disguised as “health-foods”, with fresh, organic, nutrient-dense, whole, real foods. Almost immediately, my sleep habits improved, which gave me more energy and boosted my mood and outlook on life. With a clear body and mind, I began to turn this newfound energy outward, and through mindfulness and meditation practices , I healed the broken connections in my family, my inner circle, and most importantly within myself. This journey was not easy, and there were many stumbling blocks along the way, but in the end I emerged calm, focused, healthy, happy, confident and determined to help others like me attain and sustain this incredible sense of wellbeing in their own lives.
My defiant victory over my own personal health crisis is what led me into the world of Holistic Nutrition and Health Coaching. I graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories; everything from Ayurveda, gluten-free, and Paleo, to raw, vegan, and macrobiotics, and everything in between. The most important lesson I learned is the concept of “bio-individuality,” which is the understanding there is not one perfect diet or way of eating for everyone. What nourishes, fuels and energizes one person, may make another person sluggish, weak and even sick.
